Infosys to invest Rs 120 cr

Infosys Technologies Limited, the second largest exporter of IT services, is planning to invest around Rs 120 crore at its facility in Mahindra World City, Maraimalai Nagar, 45kms from Chennai. The proposed investment is to expand company’s existing facility in the special economic zone. The company had said exports from this centre rose by 43 per cent.


Company officials said that the company had set up the facility in 130 acres, of which, around 2.1 million sq ft already constructed and another 680,000 sq.ft will be developed in the next 18 months.

As on March 31, 2010 the company had invested Rs 620 crore and is planning to invest another Rs 100-120 crore to construct the 680,000 sq ft.

Eight software development blocks have been constructed and another two are under construction inside the SEZ. The company, which started operations in the year 2005 at Mahindra World City, currently employs around 10,000 people and likely to add 2,000-2,500 people post expansion.

Meanwhile, the centre reported a 43 per cent growth in exports in 2009-10, which stood at Rs 1,617 crore.
